about

1 x 1 is a pretty old song of mine (although not the oldest on Drunken Sailors. Senescence takes that cake). It was originally on the split with Space Marine 17 called Yo Banana Boy!, which dates back to early 2005. I had been tinkering around with a re-recorded version of this song for a while, and shared it with my friend Adam Stankiewicz. He loved the idea of adding a 80s Keyboard-pop drumbeat to it...so he did!

This song gave me the most trouble when I was recording and mixing the album. I must have recorded 10 different vocal tracks (which is a lot for me in my bedroom, I know it's not a lot for a studio session), and I wasn't happy with any of them. I ended up keeping a scrap-vocal track that I recorded very early on.

Oh, and thanks to Space Marine 17 for letting me use his synth on this diddy.

lyrics

Cataclysmic words we have spoken,
well, they have broken our electricity.
And now we walk in the dark all alone,
no topic in our minds,
visibly irate.
Well, I know,
without a "you" we've got nothing to show.

And tomorrow's just a feeling inside
that it might come and take apart our night,
and still put no one by our side.
We're one times one tonight.

We're wonderful.

We're irate, we know,
with no one to show.
We're irate, we know,
without a "you" to show.
