This is one of the last songs I wrote that made it on Drunken Sailors. I must say that it is my favorite title I've ever come up with.

This is the original version of the song, which is a bit longer than the one on Drunken Sailors. I showed it to my friend Adam Mancuso, who said it could stand to be shortened a bit. I agreed with him, and so I rearranged it a little.

The final, shorter version made it on the album. Katie likes this original version more, since she really likes the lyrics. I don't mind it, but I still think I'm partial to the one on Drunken Sailors (short, sweet, and loaded with that lo-fi hisssssss).

Landlocked as I've been, you give me hope.

what is holding you back
from setting sail with me.

who is sea-eager all the time,

the glass that's holding me back from taking the helm.

But I've got a way of making maps
that are just set in fantasy.
I know that you will never take me

to where it is I've been aching to go.
It doesn't exist, I already know.
Sometimes I think it'd be better
if I didn't talk like this at all.
But I can't be more direct.
I'd break the glass
and never see you again.
So let's just do what it is that we do best.

Oh, my ship in a bottle
let's grab another pint.
I'll drown in that instead of your eyes.

I promise you that I will not
dabble in cartography.
I'll just drift off into the lonely sea.
