Saint Cecilia

from Odds & Ends by Our Twilight Pastime

about

I hadn't recorded a song in a while, so I decided to record a cover of the John K. Samson (of The Weakerthans fame) song Saint Cecilia. This song was on an early demo tape called Slips and Tangles that John K. released in 1993, when he was a member of that crazy punk band called Propagandhi.

I had actually attempted to record a cover of this song back in 2004 solely on piano. Like all of those very early OTP recordings (which, until I can fix my old external hard drive, are lost), it was poor in quality and musically...and vocally. This is a redo, nearly 3 years later. Katie loves this cover a whole lot.

I met John K. Samson in a restaurant in Brooklyn before a Weakerthans show. We talked about burritos for a little bit. I wanted to bring up this cover, as I'd be dying to know what he thinks of it, but I never did.
