Undiscovered Proofs
02:42
|
|||
We feed our hearts undiscovered proofs
to fill in the gaps of what we don't know
or what we can't make sense of.
Infinity's expanding;
we don't know why we sleep;
we need a reason when tragedy strikes
and why compassion loses out to greed.
I want to believe
that the answer for everything is right
in front of us tonight.
Twenty feet from the sidewalk
a long car holds on to someone beloved
among a sea of black dresses, black shoes and socks.
The spilled ink of sorrow
stains the cars as they pass by.
The pain and tradition
sing a song about closure
as the children try to figure out why.
I want to believe
that the answer for everything is right
in front of us tonight.
Put pen to paper;
let's extinguish uncertainty forever
with one good gut feeling.
I've got a good feeling.

Hiding in Plain Sight
02:29
|
|||
This street is nothing magical.
We don't expect a cure
as we walk a route we've done
a hundred times before.
The sky's on fire,
the street littered with poetry,
I pocket just a few I like
to keep this simple moment with me.
We pass a house
with renevations underway,
the scraps of its past out by the curb--
therapy out on display.
Could we open this
light blue door left on the street
and walk into the world we want?
Could it be that easy?
Oh, if only it were that easy.
This night is nothing magical.
It can't prove it is at least.
But we can choose to walk inside
with suspended disbelief.
Oh, it can be that easy

Bring Out the Color
02:46
|
|||
On my way back home
on a commuter train, en route.
Wishing I could spend less time on this damn thing
and more time with you.
Looking out the window
I watch the grass turn to brush in time.
The overpass passes by too quickly
to read the graffiti on its side.
Can we capture some extra time?
Take an hour or two
before our calendar, as over developed as this island,
leaves us no room.
I'm still singing about the same thing
I wrote back in '08:
that no passion or interest glows as brightly
as time with you today.
So I daydream a few more stops
of what may seem mundane to write.
But these tiny moments bring out the color
in this life that we've outlined.
Maybe it's not cinematic
to wish for something so small.
An orchestral swell never hits as well
as the sound of your voice down the hall.
The train pulls in
and I let you know that
I'm on my way home to you.
In a minor routine you're a major key,
the song that gets me through.

A Lantern and A Dream
03:43
|
|||
You found me in the light,
but could you find me in the dark
if I brought some kerosene, a lantern, and a dream
that our love could make a spark?
You know I never shy away
from an adventure or a thrill.
So I say bring it on,
play our records until dawn
because we haven't had our fill.
And now we've lived and learned.
Hardship only helped us grow.
A symphony will never beat
someone singing in the street
because it's in the cracks and folds
that true beauty can be found.
And we've got love in our sights.
So now let's raise a glass
full of promise and a chance
for our future to shine bright.
Hand in hand.
Hearts beating in time.
This is our year,
I can feel it.
Let's take these moments that we've got
before what we've got to do
and spend them every chance we get,
because in the end
there's nothing better than nothing with you.
Hand in hand.
Hearts beating in time.
This is our year,
I can feel it.
